Mikal Bridges Not Pleased With Debut Performance For Knicks

It was only game one of the NBA season, but the newcomers for the New York Knicks weren’t exactly pleased with their performance.

Thanks in large part to the suffocating defense of the Boston Celtics, the Knicks’ newcomers in Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns combined for just 28 points in the 132-109 loss on Tuesday night.

Bridges, for his part, scored 16 points on 7-13 shooting – using a strong second half to save his performance from a highly inefficient first half.

“I definitely could have done better. I think my performance at the defensive end wasn’t that [good] for me personally, as well as our team,” said Bridges. “Me personally, I think I just could have been better, especially [against] a guy getting it and having that rhythm from the three, just getting up a little bit more [on Tatum].

“He had a nice move on me in the paint, as well. Just gotta be better. I mean, Game 1, just gotta learn from it, and just get better from it.”

Bridges was a team-worst -33 in 35 minutes played on Tuesday showing inefficient scoring with his new shot, and struggles defending against some of the better scorers in basketball.

Whatever the reason, the Knicks need more from the former Brooklyn Net to this point.
