Toronto Blue Jays star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. may still be feeling the sting of his team’s 2025 World Series loss to Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers. They were so close to bringing Toronto its first World Series title in over three decades, but ultimately fell short of that goal this year.
However, Guerrero managed to receive some consolation early in the MLB offseason.
Nearly two weeks after the heartbreaking Game 7 loss to the Dodgers, Guerrero was announced as the first-ever winner of the MLB Entertainer of the Year Award.
“Big moments 💪 Big energy 😤 Big style 🔥Vladimir Guerrero Jr. shined both on and off the field this season and takes home the MLB Entertainer of the Year Award, presented by @MGMRewards! 🏆” MLB wrote in a post on Instagram.
Guerrero was not available to accept the award in person during the 2025 MLB Awards at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Thursday, but his godfather and Baseball Hall of Famer pitcher Pedro Martinez was present to accept the honor on his behalf.
Many reacted to MLB’s announcement of Guerrero’s award, including fans who didn’t seem all that impressed.
“Was the Consolation Award just invented?,” said a fan on Instagram.

While not as prestigious as an MVP award, what Guerrero just won still helps underscore how big a season he had in 2025 with the Blue Jays.
The 26-year-old Guerrero hit .292/.381/.467 with 23 home runs and 84 RBIs in 156 games in the 2025 campaign. In the postseason, the five-time All-Star electrified Toronto fans by hitting .397/.494/.795 with eight home runs and 15 RBIs through 18 games, playing a massive role in the Blue Jays’ run that is going to be remembered for a long time despite the way it ended.
