NBA announces start time for final Celtics Summer League game

The Celtics will play their final game of NBA Summer League on Sunday, facing off against the 76ers in the consolation round in Las Vegas. The league announced the Celtics will take on the Philadelphia 76ers at Cox Pavillion in Las Vegas with a 5 p.m. ET start time. The game will be televised on NBATV and also locally on NBC Sports Boston.

Boston has gone 2-2 in their Summer League play, falling short of a spot in the Summer League semifinals that will also take place on Sunday afternoon. The Heat and Warriors will face off in one matchup while the Clippers and Grizzlies will battle for a spot in the title game in another. The championship game will take place on Monday night at Thomas and Mack Arena.

The Celtics could play with another skeleton crew for Sunday’s matchup after giving veterans the day off in the latter parts of Summer League. Jaden Springer has left Las Vegas per league sources after playing one game and practicing with the team this week. Neemias Queta and Drew Peterson have watched the last two Celtics games from the bench while two-way point guard JD Davison got the night off against the Mavericks on Friday.

If those players continue watching from the bench, Sunday will be another big opportunity for Boston’s rookies along with second-year forward Jordan Walsh. Second-round pick Anton Watson has been a bright spot in Summer League, averaging 11.0 points while shooting 51 percent from the field and playing strong versatile defense. Baylor Scheierman has struggled with his shot (30.8 percent) but has been a consistent contributor with his rebounding (5.0 per game) and passing (3.7 assists per game).

Sunday’s matchup will also provide another chance for Walsh to break out of a Summer slump. Walsh is shooting 22 percent from the field through four games and has yet to hit a 3-point shot in Las Vegas, misfiring on 22 straight attempts. Sunday’s contest will be Boston’s final game before training camp opens up in September.
