NBA Insider Reveals Injury Timeline for Chet Holmgren, and It’s Not Good

Oklahoma City Thunder rising star Chet Holmgren will be sidelined for quite a while after the injury he sustained during Sunday’s game against the Golden State Warriors.

Holmgren suffered a hip injury midway through the first quarter after he fell hard to the floor while contesting an Andrew Wiggins shot attempt.

The young big man had to stay on the floor for a while, appearing to grab his hip area, before he was helped off the floor. Based on videos of the incident, Holmgren was unable to put any weight on his right leg.

Hours after the incident, Shams Charania of ESPN dropped an update on Holmgren’s injury status, revealing that the 22-year-old sustained a “a right iliac hip fracture,” which will require some time to heal.

Charania didn’t provide an exact timetable for his return, only noting that the Thunder will share a “return to play protocol” in eight to 10 weeks-meaning Holmgren could be out for more than two and half months.

The good news is that Chet Holmgren is expected to return this season. However, his absence is certainly a big blow to a Thunder team that has gotten off to a hot start this 2024 season.

Oklahoma City won its first seven games of the season before suffering their first loss against the Denver Nuggets. The team also lost to the Warriors on Sunday, marking their second defeat of the campaign.

Holmgren is a huge part of the team, having averaged 18.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks entering the Warriors showdown.

For now, though, the team and the OKC faithful can only hope for the best when it comes to Holmgren’s injury recover.
