Newcastle making clear Anthony Gordon plans amid Liverpool transfer interest

As the pre-season training beckons, Newcastle United is gearing up to extend a warm reception to Anthony Gordon.

Gordon remains with the England squad at Euro 2024 but was not called upon during the last-16 victory against Switzerland. The ex-Everton man is set to miss the initial phase of Newcastle’s summer preparations for the ensuing 2024/25 season and is slated to unite with his club following a much-deserved summer holiday succeeding the Euros.

Liverpool has shown an interest in Gordon, who was speculated to have been offered as an exchange for Jarell Quansah last month. However, there have been no further advancements from the Reds concerning Gordon.

As it stands, the immediate plan is to facilitate Gordon’s smooth transition into the pre-season, where Eddie Howe and team expect him to play a pivotal role in Newcastle’s campaign strategy.

Contrary to some reports, neither has Newcastle entertained nor received any query or proposition from Man City regarding their star asset.

Gordon, who is all of 23, is likely to be promoted to the senior leadership group of Newcastle this summer. The board is also pondering over contract renewal terms for Gordon, hinting at Newcastle’s long-term plans for the player.

His current deal is set to expire in 2026, and Howe views him as a key part of his long-term plans. Liverpool have shown interest in Gordon over the years, but Newcastle are no longer in a position where they need to sell their players.

This mirrors the situation with Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, who both garnered attention last month. Gordon would only be sold if an astronomical offer was made for him.

As Newcastle return to training later this week, the club will aim to finalize deals for Ryan Fraser and Northern Ireland international Jamal Lewis. Fraser was previously on Southampton’s radar, while ex-Norwich City star Lewis has returned to the Magpies after Watford declined the opportunity to sign the left-back permanently. Both Lewis and Fraser have one year remaining on their current contracts at Newcastle.
