Newcastle United still haven’t made any significant moves in the transfer market since allowing Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson leave the club in June.
Part of the deal for Elliot Anderson’s move to Nottingham Forest was that we take Odysseas Vlachodimos for £20 million and that is significant but for all the wrong reasons.
While Newcastle have moved on two players they’d preferred to have kept, their quest to offload players who are surplus to requirements remains unfulfilled.
Ryan Fraser and Jamal Lewis remain at the club and the likes of Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier were all earmarked for departures but still remain as Newcastle players.
Could Kieran Trippier be off to the Saudi Pro League?
However, there could be movement in the next 10 days that sees Kieran Trippier depart. Trippier has long been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and Football Insider believes that is coming closer to being a reality.
Their report suggests that £15 million would be enough to see the player dubbed ‘unreal’ by Declan Rice on Instagram leave Newcastle United.
That would be a staggering piece of business for a player turning 34 in September, especially as we only paid £12 million for him two years ago.
It’s possible but don’t be surprised if Trippier stays at Newcastle
You’re probably already seeing the problem with this story and that’s that it is coming from Football Insider who again cites club sources with no actual quotes.
Indeed, they also use the fact that Trippier was on the bench on Saturday as the catalyst for the move, when in reality, Trippier was only on the bench in case of an absolute emergency. Eddie Howe didn’t feel he was truly fit enough to play a part, but also felt he had a lack of options.
There’s still a high likelihood that Trippier does move on before the close of the window, but if it does happen this will just be a case of one of those rare times Football Insider hit lucky.
