Newcastle United have just received a severe blow in their plan to sell £4m player

The PSR window has passed, but that does not mean that Newcastle United have finished selling players.

While all the hype is around who could arrive at St James’ Park, there are still multiple players who could leave Newcastle United this summer.

Newcastle officials have held transfer meetings in Germany this week, and you have to assume that Paul Mitchell and co have been discussing who could be moved on as well as who could be brought in.

The former will largely depend on contract situations, as Newcastle have a range of players who are entering the final 12 months of their current deals.

Martin Dubravka likely to leave Newcastle United

One of those players is Martin Dubravka, with his Toon contract expiring in 2025.

It feels like his Newcastle United career is going to end this summer, with Dubravka seen as likely to leave St James’ Park.

Dubravka’s agent has held talks with the club about his future, and it is surely a future that lies away from Tyneside.

Celtic have been linked with Dubravka, and that looked like a good opportunity for the 35-year-old. He would be first choice at Parkhead, and would likely pick up some silverware.

However, it would appear that a deal is no longer on the cards.

Celtic look elsewhere

Celtic have been desperate for a goalkeeper to arrive following Joe Hart’s retirement, and Dubravka was on their radar.

But they have now looked elsewhere, with Celtic announcing that they have signed Kasper Schmeichel.

The 37-year-old has agreed a one-year deal at Celtic Park, and will be reunited with his former Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic transfer door closes on Dubravka

With Schmeichel arriving at Celtic, that will end their interest in Dubravka.

There is no way that the Hoops are going to sign another ageing keeper, and a move to Scotland would surely now be less appealing for Dubravka. He would no longer be the first choice stopper in Glasgow, which is likely what he will be looking to be.

After playing so much for Newcastle United last season, Dubravka will not want to be on the bench again. Whoever he joins, he will want to be a guaranteed starter. That will be a key factor for the £4million man.

One thing is for sure – he will not be a guaranteed starter at Newcastle United. Nick Pope is back to full fitness, while it looks like Odysseas Vlachodimos will be his deputy.

That will push Dubravka further down the pecking order and closer to the exit door. However, it is an exit door that will no longer lead him to Celtic.

Hopefully other suitors emerge. Dubravka was recently linked with Southampton, while there has also been talk of a move to Saudi Arabia.
