NFL Slaps Packers RB With Massive Six-Figure Fine Before Vikings Game

The Green Bay Packers (2-1) take on the Minnesota Vikings (3-0) in Week 4. One day before the NFC North showdown at Lambeau Field, the Packers received great news on quarterback Jordan Love.

Love, who missed two games after suffering a strained MCL during Green Bay’s season opener loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, is expected to start against the Vikings on Sunday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

While Packers fans celebrated their starting quarterback’s return, the NFL announced that the team’s No. 1 running back, Josh Jacobs, must pay a massive fine stemming from Green Bay’s 30-14 win over the Tennessee Titans last week.

While the NFL’s unnecessary roughness fine is typically $11,255, Jacobs’ penalty was nearly four times that amount. It’s the highest fine for a single play of any player during the 2024 season thus far.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed Jacobs will pay $45,020 for unnecessary roughness and use of helmet during while rushing the ball into Tennessee Titans safety Quandre Diggs.

While Jacobs can afford the fine, he signed a four-year, $48 million contract with Green Bay in March, fans and analysts were confused as to why he received such a high fine on what looked like a routine play for which no flag was called.

One man replied, “45k??. A Vikings fans posted, “45,000 is insane.” Even a Titans fan wrote, “IDK how the @NFLPA lets them get away with this. Just robbing the players for slight violations of nebulous rules. That’s more than I make in a year smh.”

While Jacobs did appear to slightly lower his helmet before contact, which the league is trying eliminate from happening during games, not even the announcers made note of Jacobs’ infraction during the matchup.

One person commented, “For what, playing football? You’re soft @NFL.” WFRV Sports reporter Kyle Malzhan posted, “I guess Matt LaFleur is gonna have to tell his running backs to… not run hard? What in the world is this, lol.”
