NHL Issues Scoring Change After Bruins-Devils Game

The NHL announced a scoring correction following the Boston Bruins’ 7–2 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night at Prudential Center. The league issued the update through its Public Relations account on X.

“OFFICIAL SCORING CHANGE: Game 1238 @NHLBruins at @NJDevils

Goal at 9:38 of the first period now reads David Pastrnak from Morgan Geekie. #NHLStats”

The change changed the stats coming out of the Bruins’ opening goal of the game, initially credited to Pastrnak with an assist from Parker Whotherspoon. After review, Morgan Geekie, not Whoterspoo, was awarded a helper.

The tally was Pastrnak’s 41st of the season and the first of his three points on the night. He added two assists, reaching 100 points for the third straight season and extending his point streak to seven games.

“I don’t take it for granted,” Pastrnak said. “I’m just happy we got the win and hope we can finish the season strong.”

The statistical change leaves Geekie with 23 assists and 53 points in 74 games this season while dropping Whoterspoon to six assists in 52 games.

Boston scored three times before the Devils responded late in the second period with goals from Stefan Noesen and Timo Meier.

Bruins coach Joe Sacco used a timeout and worked wonders during the stoppage, judging by what came next: four unanswered goals by Boston.

“We just felt like we needed to settle things down,” Sacco said. “We ended up playing a better second half of that period.”

The Bruins (32-38-9) improved to 2-10-1 in their last 13 but are already eliminated from playoff contention. The Devils, meanwhile, dropped to 41-30-7 and failed to clinch a postseason berth.
