Nottingham Forest ‘consider sacking Nuno Espirito Santo’ after ‘big problem’ comment

Nottingham Forest are considering sacking Nuno Espirito Santo after one game of the new season, according to reports from Italy.

Forest got their Premier League season underway with flying colours on Saturday afternoon – beating Brentford 3-1 to pick right up from where they left off. However, despite the win, Nuno’s time at the club might be coming to an end.

According to Italian reporter Matteo Moretto, Forest are already evaluating alternative manager candidates amid a spiky relationship between Nuno and the ownership. He claims that’s tensions stem from certain signings over the summer.

Ahead of the season, Nuno had expressed his concerns about Forest’s lack of business: “We are very far off in terms of the squad. The plans we had didn’t work out.

“The preparation in terms of the squad was not ideal. We didn’t have a chance to create the bond – and this is what I think is more important.

“We don’t know what squad we have. We have players working here who know they are going out on loan. We have a big problem.”

Forest have made eight signings this summer – with Omari Hutchinson (£37.5m) the marquee signing from recently relegated Ipswich. Dan Ndoye (£34m) has also been signed from Bologna and Arnaud Kalimuendo (£26m) from Stade Rennais.

They have also signed James McAtee, Igor Jesus, Jair Cunha and brought in Douglas Luiz on loan.

Whether Espirito Santo’s reported recruited lies with the previous lack of activity or the personnel that have arrived on the River Trent remains to be seen.

Forest are fifth in the Premier League after the opening weekend, with a trip to Crystal Palace and a home match against West Ham on the agenda before the September international break.

Chris Wood started the campaign where he left off against Brentford, scoring twice to add to Ndoye’s debut goal in the first half.

Forest are also preparing for their return to Europe after replacing Crystal Palace in the Europa League.
