Nottingham Forest have identified Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez as a target ahead of the transfer window closing next week.
It’s fair to say that the landscape changes on a daily basis as Forest look to bolster their attacking arsenal.
Eddie Nketiah has also been linked with a move to Forest but that could be a tricky deal to complete, with Arsenal demanding a big fee.
It’s also been reported that a mystery third striker – alongside Gimenez and Nketiah – has now been linked, although it’s not clear who it is.
All isn’t lost with Gimenez, however, and perhaps Forest fans would be wise to cast their minds back 12 months and the long-running quest to sign Ibrahim Sangare.
Santiago Gimenez deal could be similar to Ibrahim Sangare transfer
There will be a lot of news stories concerning Forest – and Gimenez – between now and the transfer window closing.
One yesterday suggested that Gimenez had made his final decision and he was swaying towards staying with Feyenoord for another year.
It’s rather important to remember that things can change very quickly this close to the end of a window.
This time last year, Forest were a big fan of Sangare but he was fully focused on helping PSV qualify for the Champions League – with a qualifying tie with Rangers on the horizon.
A number of reports were written. Some suggested he’d be keen, others saying he wouldn’t, with a whole host of stuff coming in between.
It wasn’t until it became apparent that Forest were going to cash in on Brennan Johnson that things really started to take an exciting turn.
Even two days prior to the deadline, a report claimed that any move was off and Sangare would in fact remain a PSV player.
Then on the eve of the window, the story had undergone a remarkable u-turn, with the defensive midfielder travelling to England after having a change of heart.
The morale of the story is that things can change all the time and if the price is right – and the money on offer to Gimenez is right – Forest might still get their man.
Forest might have to be patient in striker search
Clubs that have players sought after by other clubs are in a brilliant position right now.
They can simply ride things out and hope that the buying club pays over the odds towards the end of the window in desperation.
Forest have been meticulous in the transfer market this summer and in fairness, there is an element of trust from the fan base to get things done.
Gimenez looks to be the number one target just now but clearly, Nketiah is a player that the club fancy too.
Forest might have to be a little more patient in the market with just over a week to go until the transfer deadline.
However, there’s a real sense that the club will get things right this summer and it will be fascinating to see who Forest end up with as their new striker.
