Nottingham Forest are trying to complete an eye-catching transfer for Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah. That’s according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein who says the Reds have already had an offer for the 25-year-old rejected.
The respected journalist posted the update on his X, formerly Twitter, account and said the Londoner is top of Nuno Espirito Santo’s list as he bids to add reinforcements up front. Ornstein wrote: “Nottingham Forest working on deal to sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal. £25m (inc add-ons) opening bid rejected but talks continue – #NFFC top striker target. #AFC want ~£30/35m. #CPFC retain interest but no current club-to-club talks.”
Forest once again went with Chris Wood as the main striker in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, the New Zealand forward opened his account in the 23rd minute before being replaced by Taiwo Awoniyi in the closing stages. They have been looking to bolster their striking options for most of the summer.
Indeed earlier on Monday it was claimed the Reds have put a €25m offer, including bonuses, on the table for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, the 23-year-old Mexico international, who hit a double as Feyenoord beat PEC Zwolle on Sunday. Dutch outet De Telegraaf reported that Feyenoord will reject the bid.
However, it seems that Nketiah is now in their sights having sat out the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over Wolves, in which Kai Havertz scored and Gabriel Jesus came off the bench. Mikel Arteta’s men have been extensively linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
Nketiah, who came through at Chelsea before being released and moving to the Arsenal youth set-up, has scored 38 times in 168 games for the Gunners but managed only five in 27 Premier League games last term. He is under contract at the Emirates Stadium until 2027.
