Nottingham Forest in transfer talks for ‘one of best players’ in Argentine football

Nottingham Forest are said to have held talks about the possibility of signing Paraguay international Ramon Sosa.

Strengthening their wide options is a priority for the Reds in the remainder of the transfer window. Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has made clear he needs wingers to provide back-up and competition for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga.

Forest have already been linked with several wide men as they search for the right recruits. And Sosa is the latest name to emerge as being on the club’s radar.

He is viewed as “one of the best players in Argentine football” thanks to his impressive performances for Talleres. According to Argentine publication El Grafico, that has led to the Reds eyeing up the 24-year-old.

Discussions are said to have taken place between the two clubs. It is said Talleres are “negotiating the payment method and percentages of an operation” as they face the prospect of losing their “most dangerous weapon”.

Sosa, who has represented his country 14 times, came through the ranks at River Plate and made 29 senior league appearances for the club before leaving in 2021. He went on to play for Olimpia and Gimasia, then signed for Talleres in 2023.

Primarily a left winger, Sosa is capable of operating on the right. He is renowned for his pace and his dribbling skills.

Forest have made five signings so far this summer. Carlos Miguel, Elliot Anderson, Eric da Silva Moreira and Nikola Milenkovic have all linked up with Nuno’s squad, while Marko Stamenic will spend the campaign on loan at Olympiacos.

Nuno recently said: “Everyone can see we need wingers. The only natural wingers we have are Callum (Hudson-Odoi) and Anthony (Elanga).

“You always have to add the right pieces, there is no point in bringing (players) in just because. We need to nail everything down on the players we bring in.”
