Packers agree to terms with top draft pick Jordan Morgan

The Green Bay Packers agreed to terms with first-round rookie Jordan Morgan on Thursday, meaning that their entire 2024 rookie class has now officially signed with the team. This news comes off the heels of mandatory minicamp, which concluded on Wednesday. Morgan had been present at minicamp and the team’s voluntary organized team activities throughout the offseason.

According to cap analyst Ken Ingalls, Morgan’s deal is a four-year contract worth $14.2 million and is fully guaranteed. The only question in Morgan’s contract is whether or not he will be paid roster bonuses in 2025 and 2026 — which will trigger on the fifth day of training camp in those years. Unless something goes extremely poorly over the next three years, Morgan is highly likely to receive those bonuses.

This season, Morgan will carry a cap hit of just $2.6 million and that number will escalate to $4.5 in 2027, still well below the market value of a starting veteran offensive lineman in the NFL. For perspective, part-time right guard Jon Runyan Jr. left the Packers in free agency this offseason to sign a contract worth $10 million per year with the New York Giants.

Morgan’s signing bonus is $7.2 million, which means his bank account will be shooting up in the very near future — if the team hasn’t already paid that figure in full. Throughout the offseason, the Packers have tried Morgan out at every offensive line position other than center as they attempt to get their “best five” on the field. It’s worth noting, though, that 2023 starting right tackle Zach Tom has been missing from the field recently due to a pec injury that has kept him sidelined. Tom is expected to return to practice by the start of training camp in late July, so we’ll hopefully get more clarity on how Green Bay plans to shuffle its offensive line then.
