Packers free agent addition lands in great spot on latest ESPN Top 10 list

The lists are here. Prepare yourself accordingly.

As we get closer and closer towards the start of training camps, the internet is responding in kind. That means projections, predictions, and – perhaps most importantly – lists! So many lists. We’re ranking quarterbacks, and running backs, and schedules, and alternate jerseys. Nothing’s safe from being ranked. And all of your feelings about said lists are valid. Being mad on the internet is one of modern society’s most cherished traditions.

Fortunately, Packers fans won’t be too, too mad about ESPN’s latest list. (Though when there’s a will, there’s a way.) This week, they unveiled their Top 10 Running Back rankings, and Josh Jacobs (8th) makes an appearance. Here’s ESPN’s rationale.

Josh Jacobs goes into 2024 season as ESPN’s 8th-best running back

“Jacobs looked like the game’s premier back [in 2022] on his way to 1,653 yards and a first-team All-Pro bid, becoming the first Raiders player since Marcus Allen to lead the league in rushing. Last season, the production was that of a volume grinder, with a career-low 3.5 yards per carry, though Las Vegas’ coaching change and quarterback carousel didn’t help … But if you’re looking for a traditional, durable back, he’s still one of the best.”

When in doubt, blame Josh McDaniels. It works every time. He did fall five positions from last season, but again, that’s entirely Josh McDaniels’ fault. Now that Josh Jacobs doesn’t play for Josh McDaniels, he’ll very obviously return to form. The piece goes on to quote an anonymous NFL offensive coach – probably not Josh McDaniels – who describes Jacobs as someone that “can run inside or outside zone. Breaks a lot of tackles at the point of contact. Rarely tackled by one guy.” Sounds good to me!

And maybe you didn’t notice, but the Bears’ prized free agent signing, running back D’Andre Swift, only made the list as an honorable mention. Just thought that was interesting.
