A Carolina Panthers star was involved in a car crash near Uptown Charlotte on Wednesday, the team said.
Cornerback Jaycee Horn — who is fresh off signing a four-year, $100 million contract extension — was alone in his car when the wreck happened at the corner of Mint and Morehead streets, which is right outside Bank of America Stadium.
The Panthers said neither Horn nor anyone else was hurt in the Aug. 6 crash.
The team said Horn was evaluated by its medical staff and would not participate in Wednesday’s joint practice with the Cleveland Browns. The Panthers and Browns will face off in their first preseason game on Friday night in Charlotte.
Despite not practicing, Horn was still present at the Wednesday’s practice, according to The Athletic’s Joe Person.
It is not clear how the crash happened.
The 25-year-old is a cornerstone of Carolina’s defense and is one of the most talented players on the team. He was elected to the Pro Bowl for the first time last season and was rewarded with the big contract extension.
Horn played collegiately at the University of South Carolina before the Panthers chose him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Across his first 37 NFL games, Horn recorded 153 tackles, five interceptions and 26 passes defensed.
