Paul George Says Anthony Edwards Disrespected The Michael Jordan Era

After winning the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics playing alongside LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards made a controversial comment about a specific era in the game’s history.

Even though Edwards is only approaching superstardom after his breakout season with the Timberwolves, helping them reach the 2024 Western Conference Finals, the former No. 1 overall pick hasn’t been afraid to make bold statements.

Edwards is such a popular player because he has no filter, in the same way Charles Barkley had none during his playing career and after it as an NBA analyst for TNT.

However, Edwards’ comments created quite a stir as he claimed that Michael Jordan was the only skilled player during his era, which was taken as a direct shot at other star players of the time, like Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olajuwon and Shaquille O’Neal, as well as many others who made an impact during the ’80s and ’90s.

Not only has Edwards offended legends of the past, but stars in the league today have started to respond, with Paul George of the Philadelphia 76ers the latest to chime in.

“I thought it was kind of disrespectful to the game. I thought it was a very immature comment. … How much the game has grown. … You gotta pay dues to those dudes that did it before us,” George said, via ClutchPoints.

George joins the many who have spoken out about Edwards’ ill-advised comments, which seem to have created quite a backlash and something he’ll likely regret saying.

It’ll be interesting to see if even more current and former players express their feelings about Edwards’ comments, and if the rising star is perceived as a villain rather than a fan favorite heading into the 2024-25 NBA season.
