Philadelphia Phillies probable pitchers & starting lineups vs Seattle Mariners, Aug 3

The Philadelphia Phillies (65-44) will try to snap their five-game losing streak against the Seattle Mariners (58-53) on Saturday.

Friday’s series opener couldn’t have started worse for the slumping Phillies after starter Tyler Phillips couldn’t make it out of the second inning. The rookie got lit up for three home runs in his 1 2/3 innings of work. Things got out of hand in a hurry after the Mariners clobbered a three-run home run and a grand slam in the second inning to take an early 8-0 lead.

While the bullpen kept things in check, allowing a pair of runs the rest of the way, the Philly bats couldn’t muster any offense until the ninth, when they scored a pair of runs.

Things can’t get much worse for the Phillies now, who saw their NL East slip to 5.0 games. Things are bound to improve at some point, but who knows when?

“Obviously, we want this to change,” Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber said, per MLB.com Todd Zolecki. “We know with the room that we have, it’s going to change. Right? If we knew when, that’d be great.”

The last time he opened, he threw a clean inning in the first-half finale against Oakland.
