After some concern, the Phillies will not be losing one of their most dependable arms in the starting rotation.
Left-hander Cristopher Sánchez, who was removed from his last start on April 22nd with left forearm soreness, will not go on the injured list. He had thrown 58 pitches in just two innings during that outing after dominating in the one before it.
Instead, after some extended rest, Sánchez will make his next start Wednesday night against the Washington Nationals.
Manager Rob Thomson made the announcement in his pregame availability on Tuesday. He also named Taijuan Walker the starter for Thursday’s game, but did not go further beyond that.
Sanchez starts tomorrow. Walker on Thursday. Rest is TBD. https://t.co/GwfGR7Zaua

Before that scare in New York, the Phillies had won the last 11 games Sánchez started, dating back to last season. He has a 3.42 ERA, 33 strikeouts, and a 1.29 WHIP through 26.2 innings so far in 2025.
Last year, Sánchez made his first All-Star Game with a 2.96 ERA before the trip to Texas. He threw his first career complete game – a shutout – in June.
Sánchez continued that surge into this season. He was the starter during Philly’s home opener and has seen his whiff and strikeout rates skyrocket to within the top quarter of major league pitchers.
This promising news comes as fellow Philly lefty Ranger Suárez continues to work his way back from a back injury. When that does happen, it’s possible that the Phils move to a six-man rotation, with Zack Wheeler, Jesus Lúzardo, and Aaron Nola still in the mix.
