The Philadelphia Phillies’ broadcasting crew has made its debut in the Top 10 of Awful Announcing’s yearly broadcaster rankings. They made the leap from 14th last year to No. 7 in 2024. Was the jump big enough for the beloved team at NBC Sports Philadelphia?
The crew consists of play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy, with Ruben Amaro Jr, Ben Davis, John Kruk and Mike Schmidt as analysts.
The rankings were fan-voted by over 13,000 voters, and each broadcast was given a grade of their overall likability as a local broadcasting team in the league. It’s in no way a perfect ranking system, nor is it supposed to be. It does, however, introduce a fun viewpoint for the voices of every game.
Phillies broadcasters make huge jump into Top 10 in latest rankings
The Phillies team ranks No. 7 behind some very notable teams at the top, including the New York Mets announcers Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling.
Philadelphia’s dynamic duo of Tom McCarthy and John Kruk could very well have been the reason they were propelled into the Top 10 and even possibly higher with their sketch material comedy. Tom McCarthy has been the Phillies play-by-play announcer since 2008. John Kruk rejoined the Phillies in 2017 after previously serving as the team’s color analyst in 2003, the last year of Veteran’s Stadium.
