Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Williams did not see a dramatic uptick in his snaps against the Cleveland Browns. However, his lack of production over the last two games remains a concern, even as his role grows steadily.
Williams has just one catch in three games with the team, the game-winning touchdown that got the Steelers out of Washington with a win. Since that moment, however, Williams has not only zero receiving yards but has yet to receive even a target from quarterback Russell Wilson.
The Steelers like Williams and his ability to make big catches. However, the team has to give him a chance to make those catches on moonballs if they want to see any noticeable impact for trading their fifth-round pick for just half a season of Williams.
For now, many Williams’ snaps go to Van Jefferson and Ben Skowronek. Williams will have a ten-day mini-bye to dive into the playbook and learn it more in-depth. So far, the Steelers seem impressed by what Williams has done, but they need to gain more trust in him. It seems likely that will come against the Cincinnati Bengals.
