Proposed 3 team trade is pointless for the Browns

There are times when we cover/aggregate things that we find interesting even if we know they are unrealistic. That is part of the fun of sports. The “what ifs” can fill time, setup dreams and get people thinking.

Other times, it is important to cover the bad ideas as well to help show how unrealistic some can be.

In today’s edition, we find a proposed three-team trade that involves the Cleveland Browns dealing away WR Amari Cooper, as the sides struggle to find common ground on a contract extension. Cooper wants to get paid this year, so trade rumors are likely around the Browns star receiver.

This proposed three-team trade, along with two others that don’t involved Cleveland, would be pointless for the team. Instead, the trade is set up to help the New York Jets reunite Aaron Rodgers with Davante Adams:

Browns Get: Jets’ 2025 third-round pick, OT Tyron Smith

Jets Get: WR Davante Adams

Raiders Get: Jets’ 2025 first-round pick, WR Amari Cooper

You read that right, Cleveland would give up their top receiver to get another offensive tackle (despite having three starting-level players) and a third-round pick next year.

It seems quite simply that the author wanted to get Adams to New York and knew about Cooper’s contract demands so the two were brought together. It is noted that the Browns three tackles are all coming back from injury but noting that the team has three of them should have been enough to stop writing this illogical trade.

A third-round pick next year does nothing for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations.

It does bring us to a conversation: What is a good trade return for Cooper for Cleveland if they deal him this offseason?
