At this point, it’s not a matter of if but when the Las Vegas Raiders trade star wide receiver Davante Adams.
Adams officially requested a trade last week and didn’t play in the Raiders’ Week 5 loss to the Denver Broncos as he heals from a hamstring injury.
While the Raiders’ high asking price in a trade for Adams is reportedly holding things up, Las Vegas is also apparently trying to get it finalized as soon as possible. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Raiders are trying to trade him as soon as this week.
“As far as the Raiders and the receiver are concerned, they want him to have a new home some time in the next 48 hours,” Russini reported on Monday.
At this point, the Raiders are asking for a second-round pick for the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. However, due to his massive contract, the Raiders may need to rethink what they could realistically get back.
For what it’s worth, longtime NFL head coach Bill Belichick spoke on Monday’s Pat McAfee Show about what he thinks Adams would be worth on the trade market. He doesn’t see the second-round pick being a realistic return.
“That’s a very high price to pay for a player [with his contract],” Belichick said. “I’m not sure what his contract situation would be next year, whether you could afford his contract next year, or whether the new team would want to redo it. I think, for really a one-year contract, I think that’s really more of like a fourth- or a fifth-round pick.”
Belichick suggested the Raiders could eat some of his salary to make him more tradable. As for the second-round price tag?
“I’d be surprised if they could get that for him,” Belichick said.”
Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce was asked about the Adams situation on Monday. He called it “status quo.”
When asked when he thought things went wrong between the team and Adams, Pierce didn’t have an answer. “I don’t know,” Pierce said.
“I think you’ve got to ask Davante that.”
Adams has four consecutive 1,000-plus yard seasons with the Raiders and Green Bay Packers. He made six straight Pro Bowls from 2017-22, and three consecutive All-Pro First Teams from 2020-22.
Across three games this season, Adams has 18 receptions for 209 yards and a touchdown. At this point, it appears his next catch will come with another team.
