Nathaniel Lowe’s first start in a Boston Red Sox uniform will have to wait for another day.
The Red Sox open a two-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night at Fenway Park and the newest addition to the organization will begin the game on the bench.
“No Nathaniel Lowe today with a lefty on the mound,” Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald posted on Bluesky. “Eaton DH, Anthony RF, Bregman 3B, Gonzalez 2B, Story SS, Duran LF, Rafaela CF, Narváez C, Toro 1B, May P.”

It was first reported on Monday morning that Lowe and the Red Sox were finalizing a contract.
The team announced a host of transactions ahead of Monday’s contest, including that they’d signed the former Gold Glove first baseman to a one-year deal for this season. The Red Sox also announced that they’d called up infielder/outfielder Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester.
Eaton’s promotion was expected, as he’s been red-hot lately with the Worcester Red Sox. The 28-year-old is leading off on Monday against lefty Trevor Rogers, in part, because Rob Refsnyder was placed on the injured list on Monday.
Eaton has hit .246/.292/.385 against southpaws across his 73 big league plate appearances, while posting just a .186/.258/.237 slash line against righties in 132 plate appearances.
The lefty-swinging Lowe, meanwhile, has been much better against right-handed pitchers in his career. The 30-year-old former Silver Slugger award winner has recorded 80 home runs, 285 RBIs and a .264/.349/.437 slash line vs. right-handers in his career, while posting 25 home runs, 112 RBIs and a .260/.340/.395 slash line against southpaws.
