Warriors star Stephen Curry will likely never play for another NBA franchise. That said, his social media activity on Wednesday left many pondering about the legendary shooter’s future in the Bay Area.
For one, Curry changed the text on his Instagram bio, replacing “Guard for the @Warriors” with “Olympic Gold Medalist.”

Furthermore, Curry changed his X profile and header with photos from the 2024 Paris Olympics, replacing earlier images of him in a Warriors uniform. Curry also shared a collaborative post with LeBron James, with the caption, “Same Team… Winning Team.”

Curry is beaming with pride about winning an elusive Olympic gold medal — the only piece of hardware missing from his cabinet before the Paris Games. However, many Warriors fans perceived it as a sign of the sharpshooter teasing a potential linkup with “King” James in the NBA.
We’re living in the age of overreaction, where a luminary’s every move on social media is dissected. As such, Curry’s social media activity will be scrutinized, even if it amounts to nothing.
Curry is signed with the Warriors through the 2025-2026 season. The second-generation player will be 38 when he becomes a free agent in 2026. While Curry has repeatedly stressed his desire to retire as a Warrior, some analysts have been drumming up scenarios of him and James teaming up elsewhere.
Kendrick Perkins, for example, recently suggested that if the Lakers and Warriors get off to poor starts in the 2024-2025 campaign, Curry and James could pressure their franchises into trading them.
“We’re talking about the two most powerful individuals in basketball. If they want to get somewhere, they can, no matter what points of their contracts they are in,” Perkins told “First Take” on ESPN.
