Steve Kerr isn’t a man of fear, at least not when discussing USA issues or when leading the Golden State Warriors to championship finishes. However, the successful NBA head coach revealed a sense of hesitancy when initially asked to speak at the Democratic National Convention.
Kerr spoke to the Dan LeBatard Show of his feelings heading into the DNC.
“Yeah, that was an interesting experience,” Kerr said. “They asked me to do it a couple days before I went on and I really gave it a lot of thought because I knew I was going to take a lot of heat for it. But I wanted to make sure I got the right message across, what was most important to me. After thinking about it I realized ‘Hey, they asked me for a reason. They think it matters that I speak my mind.”
Kerr is no stranger to exchanging words with the Republican party, as he spoke against Donald Trump on numerous occasions. However, Kerr did reveal he felt the nerves before hitting the DNC stage.
“And so I decided to do it and it was very nerve-wracking and I’m glad I did it. Met a lot of great people, there’s a lot of great energy in the building. It was a lot of fun to be a part of,’ Kerr said,
Ultimately, Kerr’s DNC appearnce was deemed a success, as it erupted on social media, and took the “night-night” Stephen Curry celebration to political heights.
Perhaps the goodwill from speaking up for his country will translate to more wins for the Warriors after missing the 2024 playoffs.
