The blockbuster Wolves and Fulham transfer swap deal that could ignite the January window

Wolves are rock bottom of the Premier League table following their disastrous season to date. They are without a win in their first 15 matches and are in the drop zone along with West Ham and Burnley. The Midlands outfit are 13 points from safety behind Nottingham Forest in 17th.

Rob Edwards was appointed as their head coach last month and left Middlesbrough in the Championship to take over at Molineux. He has also managed the likes of Forest Green Rovers, Watford and Luton Town in the past. The 42-year-old has a tough job on his hands as he looks to guide his new team to an unlikely survival.

Wolves eye reunion with Adama Traore

According to reports, Wolves are interested in re-signing Adama Traore from Fulham. He is out of contract at the end of the campaign and is due to become a free agent in June next year. Therefore, his current club risk losing him for free if they don’t sell him in the January transfer window.

Traore, 29, has made 13 appearances in all competitions this term for the Whites under the guidance of Marco Silva and has chipped in with one assist. The ex-Spain international, who last featured in 2021, is facing an uncertain future at Craven Cottage. He has been on the books of the London side since joining them back in 2023.

The pacey attacker played for Wolves from 2018 to 2023 and featured on 194 occasions for them, finding the net 12 times, as well as being loaned out to Barcelona. He has also had spells in the past at Aston Villa and Middlesbrough. If Edwards managed to snap him up, he would boost his attacking department and give his team something different at the top end of the pitch which is what they need desperately right now.

Wolves should propose swap deal to Fulham

Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa has lost his place between the sticks to Sam Johnstone over recent times. He has been linked with a reunion with Nuno Espirito Santo at West Ham,according to reports. It appears he may be moving on for a new challenge elsewhere this winter.

With that in mind, Edwards should offer Fulham the chance to sign him as part of a swap deal for Traore. The Whites only have two senior ‘keepers and could do with another option in case either Bernd Leno or Benjamin Lecomte got injured. The latter is also 34 so it would be smart to bring in a cheaper alternative.

Sa is an experienced stopper who would be a safe pair of hands for the Cottagers to call upon if needed. He would flourish under his fellow countryman Silva and would push Leno for their number one spot. A change of scene would benefit him next month and give him the chance to show what he can do somewhere else.

Wolves snapped him up back in 2021 following stints with the likes of Maritimo, FC Porto and Olympiacos and he has since played 150 games. His minutes have dried up this term though so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him depart. Cutting ties with him can help free up space and funds in Edwards’ squad to pave the way for reinforcements.
