But now Thomas Tuchel has taken notice of his talents, and has listed three of the key qualities that helped earn him that call-up.

Thomas Tuchel has revealed there were three key traits as to why he called up Elliot Anderson for the upcoming international break.

Sitting down with the Three Lions social media team, the German explained his decision saying that Anderson is ‘very physical, [has] a lot of volume, and very precise clean passing.’

The England head coach goes on to say that he took notice of Anderson’s ‘key role’ for the England under-21s at the recent UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

The Forest player was part of a squad that won the tournament, and scored one goal and assisted another across his six appearances.

While Forest fans have been banging the Elliot Anderson drum, the England call-up will highlight the 22-year-old to a wider audience.

Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood may have taken the headlines last season, but Anderson was just as important to the Nottingham Forest side that secured European football.

The midfielder will have a tough task of staking a permanent place in the England starting XI, but with two games this international break, he should hopefully be given enough game time to showcase his quality.

Ben Foster told Anderson he needed more goals and assists to get a call-up, and perhaps his opening day assist played a role in getting the nod.

But Forest fans will certainly be expecting this to be the first of many appearances in the national team squad.
