Tim Sherwood was blown away by Jordan Pickford after he denied Bukayo Saka as Everton drew 0-0 with Arsenal on Saturday.
Sean Dyche’s side, perhaps buoyed on by recent takeover developments, claimed a big Premier League point at the Emirates on 14 December, although one player did leave Andy Gray staggered after what he did.
Pickford was on top form for the visitors, denying Saka early in the second half with one of his many saves, and drawing praise from Sherwood as a result.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News’ Soccer Saturday, Sherwood said [4:21 pm, 14 December], “Pickford, like he was in the first half, is just unstoppable.
“I thought it [Saka’s shot] was past him and he just puts his left hand down very low by his feet and makes a wonderful save. It is just waves and waves of attacks from Arsenal but Everton are defending for their shirt.”
Jordan Pickford helps Everton claim big point against Arsenal
It has been a positive week for the Toffees off the field, and they continued that momentum with an impressive draw at Arsenal on Saturday.
With all the speculation surrounding Dyche’s future, this was a clear message to the new owners that they shouldn’t consider moving on from him just yet.
However, while Dyche does deserve some credit for Everton claiming a point away at Arsenal, it was Pickford who was the real hero for the Merseyside club.
As has often been the case this season, the Toffees offered very little attacking threat. Therefore, Pickford was required to do a lot of the heavy lifting, which he certainly did, making five saves and preventing 1.89 goals.
As a result, Dyche certainly owes his goalkeeper a big thank you, with Everton claiming a point which demonstrates that they are more than capable of remaining in the Premier League this season, something which will be crucial for the Friedkin Group.
