Timberwolves recall Terrence Shannon Jr. from G League

The Minnesota Timberwolves have recalled guard/forward Terrence Shannon Jr. from the G League, the team announced on Saturday.

The rookie was assigned to the Iowa Wolves on Tuesday, playing two games with the G League affiliate.

Shannon Jr. dominated in those two games, averaging 33 points on 46.7% shooting, four rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

The 24-year-old could be seeing more playing time after fellow rookie guard Rob Dillingham went down with an ankle sprain during Thursday night’s loss to the Toronto Raptors.

Veteran guard Mike Conley also has been dealing with a toe injury as of late as the Wolves could use the depth now more than ever.

Shannon hasn’t seen much time on the court with Minnesota so far this season, appearing in four games and averaging 3.7 minutes played.

The University of Illinois alum was the team’s 27th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the second first-rounder the Wolves selected. Dillingham was picked by the San Antonio Spurs at the No. 8 spot, whom Minnesota ended up trading up for.

All of Shannon Jr.’s appearances have come in garbage time, playing a total of 15 minutes and scoring four points. He scored his first professional points on a steal and dunk against the Chicago Bulls at the United Center on Nov. 7 in the Wolves’ 135-119 victory.

Minnesota (8-7) will next take on the Boston Celtics (13-3) at TD Garden on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. CT.
