Oleksandr Usyk will knock Tyson Fury out and end his career in their rematch on December 21.
That is according to Usyk’s trainer, Sergey Lapin. The Ukrainian won a split decision to become the first Undisputed Heavyweight Champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999. While one judge gave Fury the win, Usyk won a unanimous decision. He was dominating the early parts of the fight. While Fury had some success in the middle rounds, he was outclassed.
In round nine, Usyk was prevented from getting a stoppage after the referee imposed a standing eight count instead. Following the count, there were also suggestions that Fury reacted too slowly, which should have ended the fight. In his post-fight comments, Fury refused to accept defeat. He argued that Usyk was given the decision due to Ukraine’s war with Russia. Once the dust had settled down, Fury rewatched the fight. The Gypsy King remained adamant that he won, comparing Usyk to an amateur boxer. While he will back himself to become a better boxer in the rematch, Lapin expects Usyk to retire Fury.

“Fury will have his opportunity again in December, but this time it will not go the distance. Usyk has studied, scanned, and seen all of his trump cards. Fury has noting else to play, this will be the last fight of his career. Usyk will retire Tyson Fury,” Lapin said
Things are looking ominous for Fury. He was pictured getting thrown out of a bar after being drunk. This raised question marks over his state of mind. Fury was previously away from the sport with mental health struggles and alcohol issues. While he has downplayed suggestions that he is not in a good place, he must be even better for the rematch.
Fury’s refusal to accept the loss will hamper him. His brother, Shane Fury, admitted that his brother had lost. After the initial fight, Shane felt Tyson had done enough to win. But after watching it again, he gave Usyk the win. There are also serious question marks over Fury’s corner. He had three people in the corner during the Usyk fight.
Fury’s Future
His lead trainer, SugarHill Steward, was the main voice, followed by Andy Lee. However, the presence of his father, John Fury, was criticized. The conflicting instructions and John Fury’s dominance impacted Tyson. In his post-fight comments, Tyson stated that he thought he was winning the fight, meaning he would have come out stronger had he been told he was behind on the cards.
Fury’s motivation may also not be there. He cannot fight for undisputed as Usyk vacated the IBF Belt. Since Fury has secured his financial future, he does not need to fight again. Regardless of the result, Shane wants Fury to retire after the Usyk rematch.
“Win, lose or draw, if he stops in a round and looks excellent doing it or stops him in six rounds and looks excellent doing it or loses or draws in an excellent fight, me as a brother I want him to say see you later with the boxing, because there’s only so much you can do.
“God willing if he has this good fight and he comes out and both men shake hands and both men leave healthy and strong, he can actually spend the money he’s earned and look back at the career he’s done and think wow. There’s not many people if any when you look at the stats and what’s happened and done what he’s done, he can appreciate that,” Shane stated
