Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry is expected to make his return to the court tonight against the Washington Wizards after missing the past three games due to injury. NBA insider Marc Stein reported the news on social media.
Curry has been dealing with a left peroneal strain and missed multiple games. Luckily for Golden State, it wasn’t considered too serious and now he will make his return to the court.
Going up against the Wizards, Golden State should be able to ease him back into the rotation. Washington is considered one of the weaker squads in the NBA so Golden State may not need too much from Curry to pull out a win.
So far, the star guard has averaged 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game. It’s been a slower start for Curry but he has yet to play over 30 minutes in any of the three appearances this year.
Golden State won all three games that Curry missed and holds a record of 5-1 on the season. They have looked much more formidable this year, in part due to the strong depth that they accumulated on the roster.
Without Curry, the team was able to survive behind strong performances from guard Buddy Hield and forward Jonathan Kuminga. Against the Houston Rockets, Hield put up 27 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
Kuminga posted 23 points, six rebounds, and one assist in the win over Houston. Both players provided an offensive spark and it resulted in Golden State getting a quality win.
Hield has especially been strong for the Warriors to open the year, scoring over 20 points in five of the six games so far. He has averaged 22.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
The veteran sharpshooter has also shot 51.7 percent from beyond the 3-point line so far this season. While he is unlikely to keep up that strong of a percentage, Hield has seemed to fit in extremely well with the Warriors system.
He has taken on the Klay Thompson type of role for Golden State and has executed it to a tee. Hield will be a crucial piece for this Warriors team as they look to get themselves back to the postseason this year.
All in all, the Warriors are glad to have their leader back for this game. They have big goals for this season and Curry is the key to it all.
