West Ham expected to take closer look as Fabio Vieira transfer update emerges

West Ham are reportedly keen on signing Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira ahead of the transfer deadline.

Graham Potter wants new players at West Ham, particularly after how they started the new Premier League season.

The London Stadium outfit lost 3-0 to Sunderland on Saturday, highlighting a glaring lack of quality in the squad.

This story includes exclusive opinion from injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar, who is a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist.

Vieira groin surgery likely to be assessed

West Ham have added Vieira to their transfer shortlist as Potter wants a new midfielder through the door this summer.

Give Me Sport’s Ben Jacobs reported on 28 July that the Hammers haven’t made an approach to secure the 25-year-old’s services.

Dr Rajpal Brar believes that if they are to take things forward, they may take a look at Vieira’s groin surgery and gauge if there are any changes they aren’t comfortable with.

His adaptation to the English top flight has also been an issue previously, which will need to be considered.

Dr Brar told West Ham Zone: “The club may take a closer look at his groin surgery to assess for any outlier changes they aren’t comfortable with, especially if the muscular injury from last season was also groin-related.

“He’s a player who had trouble adapting to the Premier League in his first stint, so they might be extra cautious.

“His game time was also erratic last season, which is another worry.”

West Ham must consider Harvey Elliott over Vieira

The Hammers should prioritise signing Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott over Vieira due to Elliott’s proven Premier League versatility and adaptability.

The 22-year-old offers dynamic attacking contributions, thriving in multiple roles.

His work rate and creativity align with Potter’s high-pressing system.

Vieira, while talented, has struggled for consistency and fitness at Arsenal and his slight frame raises concerns about physicality.

Elliott’s experience in high-stakes matches and familiarity with English football make him a better fit to bolster West Ham’s midfield and push for European qualification.
