West Ham could hijack Nottingham Forest’s move to sign 53-cap international centre-back

Nottingham Forest reportedly could be beaten to the punch by West Ham United this summer.

West Ham and Forest are said to be chasing the same player in the summer transfer window.

Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui has been incredibly busy in the transfer market already this summer.

However, the Spaniard is far from done with his squad rebuild, and is said to be targeting the signing of another centre-back, with Toulouse ace Logan Costa believed to be high up on his list.

However, Lopetegui apparently has plenty of alternative central defensive transfer targets lined up as well.

Kurt Zouma is apparently Dubai bound, and when the Frenchman officially leaves, the door will be open for the West Ham chief to sign a new centre-back.

And that seemingly spells very bad news for Nottingham Forest…

West Ham eyeing Forest target Jaka Bijol

The towering 53-capped Slovenia international could well be Premier League bound this summer.

According to a report from Messaggero Veneto, the Hammers are now keen to sign Udinese ace Jaka Bijol – a player Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo wants to bring to the City Ground.

It is suggested by the Italian publication that he will cost around £19.8 million this summer – a price that represents very good value for money in my opinion.

In this day and age, it seems as though it’s nigh on impossible to sign a proven international who’s in their mid-twenties for anything less than £40 million!

Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Bijol is a real powerhouse, and a proper athlete to boot as well.

The Slovenian ace possesses all of the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League, what with its robust and intense nature.

He always relishes the physical battle with opposing attacking players, and he proved that for his country at the Euros out in Germany this summer.

In my eyes, Bijol would be the ideal central defensive partner for Max Kilman at the London Stadium, and he wouldn’t cost too much either, relatively speaking.

In 24 Serie A appearances for Udinese last season, the 25-year-old averaged 1.8 tackles, one interceptions, 5.7 clearances and 3.6 successful aerial duels per game (Who Scored).

For just under £20 million, Jaka Bijol would be a fine addition to Lopetegui’s ranks at West Ham.

And beating Nottingham Forest to his signature would make it that little bit sweeter.
