West Ham could have last laugh on Leeds United as FA Cup progress comes at cost

West Ham United may have exited the FA Cup to Leeds United, but the Hammers may have boosted their chances of Premier League survival in the process.

Among the battle to survive, it looks like either the Irons, Tottenham, Nottingham Forest or Leeds will drop to the Championship.

As it stands, West Ham are occupying that final relegation spot with Burnley and Wolves all but confirmed as relegated.

Defeat in the cup, especially on penalties, was heartbreaking, but focus must quickly turn back to staying in the Premier League.

Now, after Daniel Farke’s latest admission, Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side may have handed themselves a boost ahead of West Ham’s run-in.

Leeds United lose multiple key players to injury

Leeds have come out on the worse side of the FA Cup clash last weekend in regard to the relegation battle, even if they did progress to the semi-final.

The Whites have been handed multiple injury blows, confirmed by Farke ahead of their clash against Man United.

Relegation injury table Total confirmed absentees
West Ham 1
Leeds 3
Tottenham 7
Nottingham Forest 3

The German stated that Anton Stach and Joe Rodon could be out of action until the start of May, with the pair crucial to the Elland Road side throughout this season.

Both were forced off injured in the FA Cup quarter-final at London Stadium.

It is certainly a positive West Ham fans can turn to after the cup exit, and survival chances could now be boosted.

Without those two players, Leeds are a weaker side, and that may affect their performances and drag them closer to the Hammers.

Farke will also be without Dan James, while Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Noah Okafor are doubts.

In the end, it was the Irons – almost back to full strength – who had the last laugh. It would be quite something if West Ham stay up and Leeds go down now.

West Ham receive opposite omen compared to Leeds

While Leeds faced negative news about their squad, the Hammers have received the opposite.

Nuno has plenty of players returning to face Wolves, including one key star.

Crysencio Summerville looks primed to return to action sooner rather than later, with the official West Ham account tweeting out an image of the winger in training.

The boost could not have come at a better time. The Hammers need to get over their cup heartbreak and avenge the 3-0 loss against Wolves earlier in the season.

Each game from now until the end of the season is a must-win, and having Summerville back certainly increases those chances.

However, it remains to be seen if Nuno will risk him against Wolves, with plenty more matches ahead of the Irons.
