Tottenham Hotspur will be in the transfer market to sign a new striker for the 2024/25 season. In many ways, it’s been a long time coming, as Spurs have been without a world-class centre forward since 2023, when Harry Kane left the club to join Bayern Munich.
Ange Postecoglou has noticed this position as a weak spot, so Tottenham fans can expect the striker transfer targets to come in thick and fast. The most recent of the bunch, though, might surprise Tottenham fans due to his former ties with their London rivals Chelsea.
West Ham overtake Tottenham in transfer race for former Chelsea striker
According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham are one of the interested clubs in the former Chelsea striker and England international Tammy Abraham. Currently representing Roma, it is believed he will leave the Serie A club this summer, with a queue of Premier League clubs willing to welcome him back to his home country.
However, the Italian outlet does claim that while Tottenham are interested, they are still a step away from West Ham, who they believe are at the forefront of the transfer race, and fellow competitors Aston Villa, who pipped Tottenham to the fourth Champions League spot next season. Therefore, Abraham will not be short of interest from the Premier League.
Tammy Abraham is Premier League proven, hence the interest from three huge English clubs. It is understandable that Aston Villa would like to welcome him back since he scored an incredible 25 league goals during his one season on loan in the West Midlands.
A clinical goal-scorer and exploiter of space, he would be the ideal long-awaited Harry Kane replacement and somebody who could steer the Ange Postecoglou project in the right direction.
Tammy Abraham runs out of contract in 2026, so the legendary club from Rome can afford to put a premium price tag on him. This, factored in with the unspoken “English tax” means that Abraham won’t come cheap.
However, as a homegrown player who has proven himself in the Premier League, it is simply the price which Spurs must pay if they wish to get on the right track. As things stand, though, they are third-placed in the race behind West Ham and Aston Villa.
