Wolves keen to sign ‘unplayable’ former Man Utd player who’s on a whopping £300k-a-week

Wolves have had a productive start to summer – and now, the club have been boldly linked with another player who is currently on massive wages.

Wanderers have already brought in Rodrigo Gomes, Tommy Doyle, Pedro Lima and Jorgen Strand Larsen, with all those players set to turn their moves official tomorrow.

Fans had really been hoping for a summer where the club showed real ambition.

And it looks as though Gary O’Neil and Matt Hobbs are on a mission to get the squad in the best possible shape ahead of 2024/25, after it ran out steam last term.

Last night, a very bold claim was made regarding a new player Wolves have interest in.

Wolves keen on former Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha

It has been reported by the Mirror that Wolves are now keen on Galatasaray winger Wilfried Zaha.

But apparently, they can no longer afford to pay his £300,000-a-week wages and are prepared to let him leave for a nominal fee. Figures at the club have apparently informed suitors that he is indeed on the market.

Zaha finished as Gala’s top scorer last season with nine goals, and fared well in his first campaign as the club won the league title. He also helped the club win the Turkish Super Cup.

It is stated that Zaha would have to accept a significant salary reduction if he is to leave Gala this summer. It is possible Gala could even pay him off, which would allow him to depart for free.

Palace are keen to take him back, as they are losing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich. And Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham United have also expressed an interest.

Surely this won’t happen

This is a transfer link that has certainly come out of nowhere.

It would be a major shock if Zaha, now 31, completed a move to Wolves this summer after only one year at Gala.

English football fans know full well what Zaha is all about. When he was at Palace, he established himself as one of the best players outside the traditional Big Six clubs and was regularly praised for keeping Palace away from danger.

He also had a spell at Manchester United from 2013 to 2015, but he made just four first-team appearances for the Red Devils.

In April 2023 then-Palace boss Roy Hodgson branded him ‘unstoppable and unplayable at times’ (via London News Online) and said that his status as Palace’s best player was a reason he had handed him the captain’s armband against Leicester City.

Zaha would have to take a huge wage cut if he was to make a move to Molineux. We will see what happens if the club move some high earners on and if Pedro Neto is sold. Even then, this does feel very unlikely.
