Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fábio Silva has insisted he never wanted to join the club and was forced into the deal by agent Jorge Mendes.
The Portuguese forward has been speaking to journalist Alvaro de Grado about his career and his desire to get away from Wolves this summer.
The striker joined Wolves in an eyebrow raising €40m deal back in September 2020 but has struggled at the club ever since, managing just five goals and six assists in 72 games in total.
He’s spent most of his time at Molineux out on various loan deals, joining Anderlecht in July 2022 before going to PSV Eindhoven the following January and then joining Glasgow Rangers in January of this year.
His time at Ibrox has not been the roaring success he would have hoped for, with six goals in 25 games not exactly awe-inspiring.
Indeed, these formative years have been difficult for the 21-year-old, who has found himself sat out of the picture at Wolves pretty much since his arrival and then struggling to establish himself away from the club while out on loan.
It seems he’s now had enough and wants people to know he never wanted to join Wolves in the first place, but was instead forced into it by Mendes and his dealings behind the scenes.
“I was almost forced. They told me that if I didn’t go they would make me play with the reserve team, that if I didn’t go I wouldn’t help the club because they were short of money… I had no escape,” he said.
“I was 18 years old and had finished my first full season, but I didn’t play everything, only 15-20 minutes. I wanted to stay at my club, Porto, to have a greater impact.
“I had other interested parties but everything was aimed at me signing for Wolves. More people were involved in that transfer. They put in more money, but in football things happen behind the scenes that you don’t control. It turned out better for everyone than for me.”
