The University of Hawai’i women’s volleyball team celebrated the return of some of the program’s all-time greats with a sweep of Cal State Fullerton on Saturday at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
After the alumnae took the court for a fun match prior to Saturday’s Big West contest, the current Rainbow Wahine (8-13, 4-6 Big West) chased down the visiting Titans (7-15, 2-8) early and ran away late in a 25-19, 30-28, 25-14 victory.
UH trailed early and closed the first set with a 12-1 run to take the lead. They managed to fend off the Titans in a marathon second set and dominated the third to complete their fourth sweep of the season and improved to 52-0 in the all-time series with Cal State Fullerton.
Cha’lei Reid posted her third double-double of the season with a match-high 14 kills and 12 digs. She also served up two aces and was in on two blocks. Bri Gunderson added 13 kills with while hitting .417. Miliana Sylvester and Tyla Reese Mane finished with nine kills each.

Setter Adrianna Arquette finished just short of a double-double with 37 assists and nine digs.
Hannah Hass led Cal State Fullerton with eight kills and UH held the Titans to .043 hitting for the match.
Cal State Fullerton jumped out to an 11-7 lead in the first set. UH twice closed to within a point but the Titans answered both times and took an 18-13 lead. A kill by Gunderson sparked a four-point run and UH trailed 18-17 on Arquette’s solo block. The teams traded errors and a kill by Gunderson tied the set at 19-19. Reid spent the remainder of the set on the service line in an 8-0 run that included her 33rd ace of the season. A kill from Mane gave UH set point and a Fullerton attack error closed it out.

UH maintained the momentum in the second set and led 15-10 at the media timeout. Cal State Fullerton rallied to tied the set at 17-17. The ‘Bows moved ahead and had set point at 24-22 after Reid’s second ace but the Titans survived to force deuce then moved ahead on a UH error. UH survived the set point and there were three more ties before Reid put away back-to-back kills to finish off the set and give UH a 2-0 lead in the match.
The ‘Bows jumped ahead early in the third and broke away to open up a 17-7 lead on consecutive aces from Miyasaki followed by a kill from Reid. UH led 22-9 on a block by Arquette and Gunderson and Sylvester finished off the victory.
