Packers Sign Kicker Brandon McManus

The Green Bay Packers continued their search for a reliable kicker on Tuesday, bringing in veteran Brandon McManus for a workout, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. The team signed him later on Tuesday per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

McManus was released by the Washington Commanders after he faced legal challenges stemming from sexual assault allegations. While the lawsuit against him was dismissed in September, the NFL conducted its own investigation and ultimately decided not to impose any disciplinary action.

The NFL reportedly interviewed 30 people during their investigation of the allegations and two weeks ago decided there was not sufficient evidence to discipline the veteran kicker. The accuser’s attorney Tony Buzbee claims that the league never talked to either of the women who are suing McManus.

At the time, neither McManus nor his attorney, Brett Gallaway, released a statement.

The Packers have struggled with inconsistent kicking in recent years. Kicker Brayden Narveson has missed an NFL-leading five field goals this season, prompting the team to explore other options.

McManus began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent in 2013, signing with the Indianapolis Colts. After brief stints with the Colts and New York Giants, he found a home with the Denver Broncos in 2014.

McManus quickly established himself as a reliable kicker for the Broncos, playing a pivotal role in their Super Bowl 50 victory. His consistent performances and clutch kicks earned him recognition and a long-term contract with the team.

Over the years, McManus continued to excel, earning multiple AFC Special Teams Player of the Week and Month honors. He set franchise records and contributed significantly to the Broncos’ success.

In 2023, McManus faced challenges, including legal allegations and a change of teams.

McManus has kicked 161 games during his NFL career, mostly with the Denver Broncos, where he spent the 2014-2022 seasons. He has made 253 of 311 (81%) career field goals. The Packers’ current kicker, Brayden Narveson, has hit 12 of 17 (71%) field goals as a rookie so far this season.
