Carolina Panthers Starting QB, Family Involved in Car Accident

The Carolina Panthers have been struggling thus far this season, posting a meager 1-6 record through seven weeks. After two weeks, the team elected to move on from 2023 first-overall pick Bryce Young for 14th-year vet, Andy Dalton.

On Tuesday, Dalton, his wife, three children, and his dog were traveling through Charlotte and his vehicle was struck, causing an accident.

Thankfully, the current Panthers quarterback and his family were evaluated and nobody was transported to the hospital. At the time of writing, that is the extent of the news the Panthers have released to the public.

Andy Dalton, Family Involved In Car Accident

To this point in Dalton’s career, he’s been through just about everything.

He was initially drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 35th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft out of TCU. In total, Dalton spent nine seasons with the Bengals and threw for 31,594 yards and 204 touchdowns and, if you’re a QB wins kind of person, finished with a 70-61-2 mark. He made the Pro Bowl three times and finished second to Cam Newton for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

He is the Bengals’ franchise leader in passing touchdowns and is second.

Then, after leading the team to the first-overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Bengals cut ties with Dalton in favor of Joe Burrow.

He signed with the Dallas Cowboys for the 2020 season and took over for an injured Dak Prescott and led the Cowboys to a 30-7 win over his old team. He passed for 2,170 yards and 14 touchdowns in 11 games.

The following season, Dalton signed with the Chicago Bears to be a mentor for Justin Fields. He appeared in eight games for the Bears and passed for 1,515 yards and eight touchdowns.

In 2022, Dalton signed to be the starter with the New Orleans Saints. In 14 games, despite an infamously meme’d game, he passed for 2,871 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Then, he signed with the Panthers to mentor Young. Last year, he only appeared in three games with one start and passed for 361 yards and two scores. Thus far this year, Dalton has made five starts and has amassed 989 yards and seven touchdowns.

Dalton’s 39,500 yards places him 26th all-time and his 253 touchdowns rank 24th.
