Byron Young definitely looked like he knew he committed the facemask penalty that somehow wasn’t called at the end of the game between the Rams and the Vikings, and the linebacker couldn’t help but have some fun while attempting to explain his reaction.
The Minnesota Vikings fell into a 28-20 hole against the Los Angeles Rams midway through the fourth quarter of their Thursday Night Football showdown, but Sam Darnold and Co. did have the chance to stage a two-minute drill to tie things up after getting the ball at their own five-yard line with 1:46 on the clock.
However, the home team was able to put things away when Byron Young tackled Darnold in the end zone for a safety to give his team a 30-20 lead and possession of the ball even though virtually every single person watching the game aside from the referee standing closest to the play saw the LB grab the QB’s facemask while making the tackle.
Referee thought Sam Darnold decided to just twist his own head off. No facemask. Just Darnold trying to go full Exorcist out there. Yikes. pic.twitter.com/ba7EDjodAQ

There’s obviously no guarantee the Vikings would have been able to drive down the field to score the touchdown and the two-point conversion they would have needed to force overtime, but it was still an absolutely egregious no-call that once again highlighted the lackluster state of officiating in the NFL.
There was probably no one more shocked about the lack of the flag than the man who was credited with the sack, as it was pretty clear Young expected to be penalized when you consider he immediately put both hands on his helmet after realizing he committed the infraction that ultimately wasn’t called.
However, he decided to go into Troll Mode while responding to a screenshot of his reaction after the game, as he jokingly implied he was simply covering up his ears because of the decibel level in SoFi Stadium.
It was just so loud in there had to cover up my ears ya know. https://t.co/R3tfgF79NT
