Critic Claims Jerry’s Cowboys Reduced To Nothing But ‘Clickbait’

ARLINGTON – There is a huge portion of the sporting audience that loves the Dallas Cowboys. There is a maybe-equal portion of that population that “loves to hate” “America’s Team” and all it stands for.

Dallas is presently holding a 3-4 record before another key NFC matchup today as the Philadelphia Eagles come here to AT&T Stadium. It will surely be a much-watched game – CBS and Tony Romo are on the national telecast – and part of the reason is reflected in the aforementioned assertion. …

Essentially, there is a huge portion of humanity that can’t take its eyes off a train wreck.

Dallas dominates the NFL news cycle, no matter what, much to the dismay of many, including, weirdly, Mike Golic Sr.

“Quite honestly, it’s a waste of time, other than you’re going to get clicks,” Golic said. “But … to talk about Dallas in any meaningful way, they’re not going to do anything. They’re not going to be a threat.”

The problems with Golic’s take are twofold. One, once we skip beyond the silliness and the hyperbole and the trolling, a bad Dallas team is news. To reiterate: A stumbling Cowboys team is just as compelling to the national audience as a high-flying Cowboys team is. That’s not “click-bait”; that’s fact.

And two, while the Cowboys bring a lot of the “clickbait” junk on themselves because that’s the way owner Jerry Jones likes it, they are the No. 1 sports story in America almost 365 days a year. And that’s because you, the consumer, craves it … with Golic having spend years as part of the feeding machine.

Ironically, when Golic hosted an ESPN daily national radio show, based on the East Coast, we’re quite certain a day did not go by without him doing a Cowboys segment. Indeed, that’s not just irony, it’s also hypocrisy … as Golic’s very interview here – making an issue of the Cowboys not being an issue – is hypocrisy as well.
