Jaylen Brown Fires Back At Nike Over Giannis Antetokounmpo Post

Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics went into Milwaukee on Sunday and defeated Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks 113-107.

At the beginning of the second quarter, Giannis was called for a charge after throwing an incidental elbow toward Brown, knocking the 2024 NBA Finals MVP to the ground.

Giannis immediately tried to lighten the situation up by hitting Brown with the “too slow” fake handshake gesture as the two were heading down to the opposite end of the court.

Following the game, Brown discussed Giannis’ antics, calling the two-time MVP a “child.”

Fast forward to Wednesday night, Giannis and the Bucks picked up their fourth win of the season and the second since the loss to Boston with a 127-120 overtime win over the Detroit Pistons. The “Greek Freak” had his best game of the year, tallying 59 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists.

Nike, which has a sneaker partnership with the Bucks star, responded to Giannis’ epic performance with a post seemingly taking a shot at Brown. “Nothing childish about ‘em. 59 for the Greek freak,” Nike wrote on X.

Brown and Nike have had their fair share of beef in the past, starting when he backed his former teammate Kyrie Irving after Nike took away his sponsorship for posting a link to a documentary many viewed as antisemitic.

This continued when the Celtics guard was not selected to be a part of Team USA for the 2024 Paris Games. The athletic company had major apparel deals with multiple Team USA squads, including the men’s basketball team. Brown claimed Nike had a lot of influence in the decision not to add him to the Olympic roster, which came shortly after he led Boston to its 18th championship.

Well, Brown caught a glimpse of Nike’s subtle shot toward him after Giannis’ big game and fired back with his own remark to the company on Thursday afternoon.

“Yall got weird energy,” Brown responded on X.

Boston and Milwaukee have had two completely different starts to the 2024-25 season. The Celtics have begun their title defense with a 10-3 record through 13 games, including two over the Bucks, good for second place in the Eastern Conference behind the undefeated Cleveland Cavaliers.

Meanwhile, the Bucks are off to one of their worst starts since Giannis took the lead role on the team. They initially fell to 2-8 and were sitting toward the bottom of the standings, but have since won two straight and have jumped to 4-8. However, they are still on the outside looking in on the play-in tournament.
