New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge was the best hitter in the American League by a mile in 2024.
The AL Most Valuable Player voting, announced Thursday, reflected that with uncanny accuracy.
Judge won the award in voting by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Former Yankees captain Derek Jeter made the live announcement on MLB Network.
Judge, 32, hit .322 with 58 home runs and 144 RBIs in the regular season, helping the Yankees win an AL-leading 94 games.
Judge collected all 30 first-place votes from the BBWAA electorate. Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. collected all 30 second-place votes.
Yankees outfielder Juan Soto finished third, collecting 21 third-place votes, ahead of Baltimore Orioles infielder Gunnar Henderson, who finished fourth.
“I honestly wouldn’t be in this position without my teammates, all the coaching we had this year,” Judge told the MLB Network panel. “This is such a blessing. I have to thank God every day to be here, wear pinstripes, and be here in New York.”
It is the second AL MVP award of Judge’s career. He also won the award in 2022.
“It means a lot,” he said on MLB Network. “There’s a lot of hard work in the offseason, during the season the ups and downs throughout it, and just the constant support from teammates, the fans in New York — just everybody to help me get to this spot.”
