‘Deeply regret’ – Andreas Pereira releases statement minutes before Fulham game after he’s axed from squad

Andreas Pereira has admitted he ‘deeply regrets his unprofessional conduct’ after an ‘inaccurate’ article was released this week.

The Fulham midfielder found himself in hot water with Cottagers fans after an interview regarding his potential summer exit surfaced earlier this week.

The Brazilian was quoted speaking about his links to Marseille, with the report from Premier League Brasil quoting him saying the switch ‘unfortunately didn’t work out’ after he had been ‘looking forward to it’.

Now, he’s addressed the ‘malicious’ article, insisting he is ‘fully focused’ on Fulham.

Releasing a statement just minutes before his side’s clash with Tottenham on Sunday, Pereira wrote on Instagram: “I would like to address the article recently published about me.

“Unfortunately, the piece contains statements attributed to me that I did not make, and the translation into English was done in a malicious and inaccurate manner, completely distorting my words.

“In the interview, I clearly expressed my happiness and satisfaction with being at Fulham and my gratitude for everything the club and the staff have done for me, emphasising at all times that I still have two years remaining on my contract and that I am fully focused on the club.

“However, the article includes comments that are neither accurate nor reflective of what I actually said.

“I deeply regret the unprofessional conduct displayed in this situation and respectfully request a retraction of the quotes falsely attributed to me.

“It is essential to uphold the truth and ensure that public discourse is based on facts.

“Thank you for your understand. And most importantly Come On Fulham.”

Pereira signed for Fulham from Manchester United in 2022.

Pereira wrote this on his Instagram

He’s played 94 games for the west London club, scoring nine goals and grabbing 15 assists in that time.

This season, he’s started every one of Fulham’s 12 Premier League game so far.

However, he has been left out of Fulham’s London derby squad to face Spurs.

Fulham go into the game against Spurs ninth in the Premier League table and only four points outside of the top four.

Tottenham, meanwhile, come into the clash off the back of thrashing Manchester City 4-0 in their last league outing and drawing 2-2 with Roma in the Europa League.
