Garrett Crochet Matches Red Sox’s Energy With Reaction To Trade

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow seemed genuinely excited that he was able to acquire pitcher Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.

Crochet seemingly felt the same way.

Breslow spoke with reporters after finalizing the deal, and shared the 25-year-old’s takeaway after their initial conversation.

“I had a chance to talk with him earlier,” Breslow said, as shared by NESN. “I don’t think this situation snuck up on him — people have been talking about a potential trade for months now. He sounded genuinely excited about Boston being the destination and the chance to come pitch in the AL East. I think he recognizes the position-player talent that we have around him and the chance to pitch in a rotation that is young and emerging — but also has experience. He seems really, really excited.”

Boston is sure to feel the same way, as Crochet is just about everything you could want out of a pitching addition. Chicago just watched him have the best season of his young career — as he finished with a 3.58 ERA in 32 starts and made the American League All-Star team — before shipping him off because… well, they’re the White Sox.

The Red Sox, on the other hand, will continue looking to add as they chase an AL East crown for the first time in seven seasons.
