Nathan Jones drops some excited transfer hints and a positive team news ahead of Leicester City clash

Charlton Athletic have been handed a double injury boost ahead of a tricky fixture against Leicester City at The Valley this weekend.

Nathan Jones’ side remain unbeaten so far this season after a euphoric late win against Watford and 0-0 draw at Bristol City, with a 3-1 Carabao Cup win against Stevenage in the middle of those league outings. Next up for the Addicks is the visit of Leicester City.

The Foxes are targeting promotion straight back to the Premier League under new head coach Marti Cifuentes but have had a stuttering start. An opening weekend victory over Sheffield Wednesday has been followed by a cup defeat to Huddersfield Town and then league defeat to Preston North End.

Charlton Athletic handed double injury boost

Those two defeats on a row are a boost to Charlton Athletic, who will also have their tails up thanks to positive injury news this week. On Thursday, Jones confirmed that centre-back Reece Burke has been back in full training this week.

The 28-year-old was snapped up for an undisclosed fee from Luton Town this summer but picked up a niggle during pre-season preparations. He has not featured since the start of the competitive season but is nearing a return.

Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Will Mannion missed the draw against Bristol City due to a ‘minor accident’ but is now available for selection and can feature against Leicester City. Mannion played the full 90 minutes in the cup against Stevenage but will likely play second fiddle to summer signing Thomas Kaminski again in the Championship.

Jones was also quizzed about any more potential Charlton Athletic transfer business. The London outfit got several deals done early on in the window and have already brought nine new faces through the door.

There aren’t likely to be many more new arrivals at The Valley but Jones did tease that there could still be room for one more. As relayed by journalist Richard Cawley, he said: “What we probably want to do is add, at least one body. We know the position we need it. Maybe to do that, we want to make sure our numbers are good.”

The manager also spoke about outgoings and added: “The club have been amazing in backing us and they then trusted us to put players out, developing the assets. We have done that. Gassan has got a really good move and started really well. Alex Mitchell has got a move. Kaheim has gone and is in a wonderful place there. It is important if they are not going to impact on us now, it is important we keep developing the asset and sending them to the right clubs.”
