A medical has reportedly been booked for Elliot Anderson after an agreement was reached between Nottingham Forest and Manchester City for the midfielder’s transfer.
The Reds rejected City’s first two bids for their star man but negotiations continued and the 23-year-old is on course to become the most expensive British player in history. A fixed up-front fee of £116 million is said to have been agreed, although some media outlets put the figure at closer to £130m.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, City have scheduled a medical for Anderson today (Friday). It is due to take place in New York, with the England international currently on World Cup duty in America with the Three Lions.
Romano reports City will pay £116m, with no add-ons included in the deal. If all goes to plan, it will be a new record for the FA Cup winners, surpassing the £100m they spent on Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in 2021. It would also eclipse the £105m Arsenal splashed out on Anderson’s England teammate Declan Rice when they bought him from West Ham United in 2023.
England boss Thomas Tuchel has already said members of his squad are permitted to complete transfers during the World Cup, although he would prefer for it not to happen the day before a game. The German also suggested medicals could be completed in the US, stating: “The doctor is ready to take any medical if needed.”
Anderson started the Three Lions’ opening two group games of the tournament. He will likely keep his place in the XI for Saturday’s clash with Panama at New York/New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.
A reported £130m price tag was said to have been placed on Anderson’s head. Such a figure would have represented a British transfer record, beating the £125m Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak 12 months ago.
City’s second bid was worth more than £120m, reportedly made up of a £106m initial payment and £15m worth of add-ons. The agreed fee will see Forest pocket more up front.
City had made Anderson their top target this summer on the back of an impressive couple of seasons Trentside. The Reds signed him from Newcastle United in 2024 for £35m – a figure that effectively became £15m given goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos headed in the opposite direction for £20m.
