Kobbie Mainoo has set his sights on helping Manchester United compete for major trophies after signing a new contract.
Man United announced on Thursday afternoon that Mainoo had put pen-to-paper on a new five-year deal, thus agreeing to extend his stay with the club until June 2031.
The midfielder has become a mainstay under head coach Michael Carrick during the second half of the season, having been largely frozen out by former boss Ruben Amorim prior to his exit at the beginning of the year.
With his future now secured, Mainoo is relishing the prospect of playing a key role in ensuring Man Utd are back to challenging for major honours.
He said: “Manchester United has always been my home; this special club means everything to my family.
“I have grown up seeing the impact that our club has on our city, and I relish the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.
“From The Cliff, to Littleton Road, to Carrington and ultimately Old Trafford, the journey so far has been incredible.
“I have the privilege of living my dream every single day, with the same relentless desire to succeed here as when I joined my first training session at the age of six.
“We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”
Mainoo is on course to bring up 100 senior appearances for Man United before the end of the season as Carrick’s side finish the campaign with games against Liverpool, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton.
United require two more points to seal a return to the Champions League, though that could be confirmed before they kick-off against Liverpool if results elsewhere on Saturday go in their favour.
